Evaluation of knowledge on the new guidelines of the Polish Resuscitation Council on resuscitation rules and life-saving among the nursing staff of the research hospital of the Silesian Medical University

The first aid provided up to 3 min. increases chances for survival 3 fold. Hospital is a place were highly specialized medical staff and available equipment should be able to apply every kind of resuscitation technique. Therefore all nursing staff is expected to apply CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) in emergency situation. We carried out anonymus questionare among nurses appointed in hospitals ruled by Silesian Medical University regarding current knowledge of CPR recommendations. Despite updating the skills of CPR on a regular basis, knowledge about latest recomendations is not satisfactory overall. The lowest knowledge have nurses with the longest work experience. The more systematic courses combined with more practice in simulation centers could improve present situation.
